Meet Me

Hey! I’m Erin Scott from One Shot Scott Photography!

About Me

First thing’s first, I’m guessing you want to know where on earth the name One Shot Scott Photography came from. To be fair, it didn’t come from me. It came from my amazing husband, Jared. I’ve been married to this wonderful man for the last 13 years. I met him at 17 and we have been together since. Hopefully, he has lost interest in reading this by now so the truth can come out(Ha ha…). He is a total goofball, and boy do I love him! At one point he was also a terrible driver. I say, “at one point” because he is a good driver now, but please don’t tell him I said that. It will go straight to his head.

Since he was such a terrible driver, I would make fun of him constantly for his parking and driving skills. One day he finally figured out how to parallel park, and boy was he excited. EVERY SINGLE TIME he was able to parallel park on the first try he would ask the kids, “What’s my name?”. The kids would all shake their heads and he would shout in excitement, “That’s right, I’m one shot Scott.” So after hearing “one shot scott” for the 50 millionth time, I decided to claim the name “One Shot Scott Photography” as my own, and now I get to say back “Wait, who is One Shot Scott now?”

My Life

If you can’t tell, I love to laugh and make jokes with the people in my life. I’m a little bit sassy, but a whole lot of fun. My children definitely bring out the best in me. They are my world and the reason why I started my photography business. Fourteen years ago, my son was born with a cleft lip and palate, and club foot. It was completely unexpected. We were blindsided by the amount of medical bills, all of the appointments, and the multiple surgeries we would have to go through. Luckily, we were not completely blindsided on all aspects. My husband was also born with a cleft lip and palate so he had some first hand experience. If you don’t know what a cleft lip and palate is please click here to read more about it.

My son was 2 months old and was about to have his first surgery by the time he turned 3 months old. His first surgery was his lip repair where they closed up his lip. I was beside myself because I loved him for exactly who he was and exactly how he was born. It was devastating to me that he would no longer look the same and that he would no longer have his “wide” smile. So one day, I took a risk.

The Beginning of One Shot Scott Photography

I always loved photography but I only had a film camera that I got from my Step Dad after he passed away, and a cheap digital camera. So, I went to Circuit City and decided to open up a credit card (I know, I know – not smart but I was a hormonal young woman) to buy a camera. That way, I could document my baby before his face changed forever. I bought my camera and I started photographing him constantly. Let’s be clear… I had no idea how to use the camera I bought. It was way complex and I didn’t know exactly what I was doing, but I knew I loved photography and I knew I needed to document my baby. That is where my passion began and it continued to grow over the years bringing me to where I am today.

What I Love

I bet you’re wondering what else I enjoy… maybe you’re not but I’ll tell you anyway. I enjoy spending as much time as possible with my kids and husband and my extended family and friends. It’s my favorite way to spend my time. These are the people who energize and excite me. I love new adventures and going places I’ve never been before. Additionally, I enjoy music and dancing. I am that embarrassing Mom that is dancing while two of my kids hide their faces. I love camping and hiking and being outside. However, I strongly dislike all the mosquitoes that I come across while living in Wisconsin. I definitely miss living in California where the ocean breeze keeps those bugs away.

Traveling is also a passion of mine. I take several trips to California each year, because that’s where half of my family is and where I spent 16 years of my life. It’s truly my second home. However, traveling to California is not the only place I enjoy. Each year I try to go to at least two new states or countries I haven’t been to. Last year we visited Louisiana and Colorado. We also took a fun road trip down to Florida with the kids. It is my goal to get them in every state before they turn 18. They have been to 17 states so far and the list will continue to grow each year as we go on fun new adventures.

If you’re reading this and you don’t live in Wisconsin or California but want a photoshoot with One Shot Scott Photography, PLEASE reach out! Chances are, I may already have a trip planned or will start planning one.

I hope you’ve enjoyed finding out who I am, or at the very least didn’t fall asleep while reading this. However, if you’re a tired and exhausted parent, I totally get it! I look forward to getting to know all of my clients-finding out their passions, and the things that make them happy. Natural and raw emotion caught on camera is what I love and what I want to capture. I look forward to capturing that for you.
